Surgical treatment

Many neurological conditions, especially those affecting the spine and spinal cord, can be treated surgically.

Such interventions primarily require huge neurosurgical experience. The scope of surgery for Your pet is determined by multiple factors, which will be carefully discussed with You during the initial examination and consultation at the clinic.

The purpose of neurosurgical interventions is usually to reduce or eliminate pressure on the spinal cord and brain. During the procedure structures that cause pressure on the nervous tissue from the outside (sometimes from the inside) thereby limiting its function, are removed.
The most common surgical intervention is the removal of compression on the spinal cord or nerve roots caused by discopathy, also known as a “slipped” disc. Depending on the type of discopathy, the spinal canal is opened in a proper way, the herniated disc material is removed, and the spinal cord is relieved of the compression. During the procedure, the surgeon operates very close to the spinal cord.

Due to the closeness of neural tissue all neurosurgical procedures are performed with utmost precision and require the full focus of the entire medical team as well as highly skilled anaesthesia and post-operative care.
