    A cardiology consultation involves a conversation with the pet’s owner in order to collect a detailed medical history, as well as an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound), if necessary, it may also include an ECG, blood pressure measurement, or lung ultrasound. The examination is usually performed on a special table with a cutout, where an animal lies on its side, and is completely painless.

    Cardiology consultations are conducted using a state-of-the-art portable echocardiograph – the GE Vivid IQ, equipped with three sectoral cardiology probes for accurate heart diagnostics in both small cats and giant dog breeds, as well as a linear probe for lung ultrasound.

    It is recommended to visit a cardiologist:

    • if you notice decreased activity, faster fatigue during walks, persistent coughing typically associated with physical exertion of your pet;
    • for safety purposes, to increase anaesthesia safety before computed tomography and CSF examinations, as well as prior to planned neurosurgical procedures;
    • in terms of check-ups as part of prevention in breeds predisposed to heart diseases, e.g., in dog of the following breeds: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Boxer, French Bulldog, Doberman, Great Dane, and in cats: Sphynx, Maine Coon, British Shorthair, Ragdoll, Russian Blue, Norwegian Forest;
    • prophylactically once a year in geriatric patients;
    • following the veterinarian's recommendation when heart murmurs are detected during a routine check-up at the clinic;
    • in the case of suspected vascular changes, hypertension, dyspnoea, fainting, or suspected embolism.
